神奈川県大山の伝統木地玩具です。
8代続く伝統独楽職人播磨啓太郎氏 ( 御歳95 ) の木地玩具シリーズ。
戦前より続く、大山の山岳信仰の天狗がモデルです。
木のおもちゃは、一時プラスチックやハイテクなおもちゃに押されて、
廃絶の危機に何度も会いました。
派手なピンクや黄色を使った彩色は、
プラスチックの玩具に負けず劣らずという意味での描彩だと、
作者ご本人から伺いました。
そして、昔ながらの木地玩具を残したいという作り手と、
理解ある蒐集家によって生き延びてきたのです。
作者の人生がそのまま作品に表れたような
おおらかで自由な作りが魅力です。
